I dreamed of my Mother last night. We were attending a play about Alice in Wonderland, and my Mother was wearing a funny hat and she was laughing. These are the best dreams of all. On our farm, she planted a bed of red and orange day lilies and every spring they would bloom. In her busy life of raising four teenage daughters and working full time, she rarely watered the lilies or had time to pull the weeds around them. I suspect there were even times she forgot they were there. Through hard winters, through summers without rain, they bloomed for almost two decades. I like to imagine they are still there, waiting patiently under the soil, for the next beautiful person to come, who will be worth blooming for.
