For years, I’ve joked about waiting on a call from JCPenney asking to use my paintings for their sheets and bedspreads. Then I could buy that cabana on the beach, paint at leisure, and drink fruity things out of coconuts all day.
Yesterday, I got a call from Disney. Of course, the whole time I was on the phone, for one – two – three calls in a row from them, I was wondering if this was some sort of prank. I’m still wondering that! But even as everything is coming together for a collaborative event with them, I am prepared for someone to say, “Smile Nancy, you’re on Candid Camera!” (young folks, just Google to find out what that means…)
I’m super excited I’ve been asked to work with Disney to host a flower painting workshop, designed to help promote the advance screening for “Beauty and the Beast”. What does “Beauty and the Beast” have to do with me? Elise, the Disney coordinator, explained that the movie is filled with flowers!

My heart is beating just a little faster right now, and I’m wondering if this is a dream! One thing I know for certain, awake or sleeping, there are no accidents in life. I have a few very powerful guardian angels in Heaven, since I lost my Mom, Elsie. One of my most cherished memories of my Mother was listening to her play Fur Elise on the piano. I made it the ring tone on my phone, so every day I could keep a small part of her close to me. I think I may have just received a voicemail from Heaven.
I’ll share more details as everything unfolds, but in the meantime, don’t be afraid to reach for the stars. Because even in the life of an artist, you may someday discover you’ve reached a space and a place of joy, a place Where Dreams Come True.
