A dream of her mother laughing in a whimsical hat brought back memories of the resilient day lilies she once planted on the farm. Despite neglect and harsh seasons, the lilies bloomed for years—a quiet legacy of love and endurance, waiting to bloom again.

I dreamed of my mother last night. We were attending a play about *Alice in Wonderland*, and my mother was wearing a funny hat and laughing. These are the best dreams of all. On our farm, she planted a bed of red and orange daylilies, and every spring they would bloom. In her busy life of raising four teenage daughters and working full time, she rarely watered the lilies or had time to pull the weeds around them. I suspect there were even times she forgot they were there. Through hard winters and summers without rain, they bloomed for almost two decades. I like to imagine they are still there, waiting patiently under the soil for the next beautiful person to come—someone worth blooming for.
